Praia da Luz is a reasonably exposed point break in The Algarve that only works when conditions are just right, with Winter being the best time of year for surfing, featuring both left and right-hand waves. The most favorable conditions are a South-Southeast groundswell combined with offshore winds from the North-Northwest. The break works best around high tide. The spot is sometimes crowded. Surfers should be aware of rips/undertow, man-made danger (buoys etc.), and localism. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in January.
