Porto Martins on Ilha Terceira in the Azores is a sheltered point break with pretty consistent surf, especially in autumn and winter. It works best with north swells and offshore winds from the west, receiving both windswells and groundswells in equal measure. The reef breaks offer both lefts and rights, and the spot performs best around high tide. Even when waves are up, it remains relatively uncrowded. The best month to surf Porto Martins is January, when winter swells and offshore winds most consistently deliver clean, rideable waves.
