Populo on Ilha de São Miguel in the Azores is a fairly exposed beach break offering reasonably consistent surf year-round. It works best with southwest swells and offshore winds from the north, picking up a mix of groundswells and windswells. The beach favors right-hand waves and can get crowded when conditions are good. The best month to surf Populo is September, during the autumn swell season when cleaner, rideable waves are most consistent.
