📍 Local Knowledge

Monte Verde on Ilha de São Miguel in the Azores is a north‑facing exposed beach break that offers reasonably consistent surf and works across a wide range of swell conditions, picking up energy well from north and northwest swells that wrap into the beach. The waves break over a sand bottom with multiple peaks producing both lefts and rights, and it can hold surf at low, mid, and high tide. Conditions tend to be cleanest with southerly or southeast winds offshore, and the spot can be playful and fun for a range of surfers when swell is present, though local currents and occasional water quality issues can influence conditions. The best month to surf Monte Verde is August.
