📍 Local Knowledge

Meio da Baía is a very consistent beach break in Peniche (Central Portugal) that is part of the long sandy bay that stretches to Baleal. It features left and right-hand waves over sandbanks and is generally considered excellent for beginners and intermediate surfers due to its softer, slower waves. The most favorable conditions are a North or Northwest swell combined with offshore winds from the South, Southwest, or Southeast. The break provides good surf at all stages of the tide. The spot can be crowded during peak season, especially on weekends. Surfers should be aware of rips/undertow and rocks (especially closer to the ends of the bay, such as near Gambôa). The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in Autumn (September-November).
