π Local Knowledge
Ilha de Faro is an exposed beach break in The Algarve that only works occasionally and is typically flat in summer, featuring both left and right-hand waves. The most favorable conditions are a West-Southwest swell from windswells or groundswells combined with offshore winds from the Northeast. The break works best around mid tide when the tide is falling. The spot is unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in January.
