π Local Knowledge
Forte Novo is an exposed breakwater break in The Algarve that offers quite consistent surf, though it is often flat during summer, featuring both left and right-hand waves. The most favorable conditions are a West-Southwest swell from local windswells or distant groundswells combined with offshore winds from the Northeast. The break works best around low tide. The spot is unlikely to be crowded, even when there are waves, but surfers should be aware that the crowds in the water make a gath helmet a good idea. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in January.
