Saint Jean de Monts in the VendΓ©e is an exposed beach break that is known for being quite fickle, only working once in a while. As with much of this coastline, the summer months are particularly prone to being flat. When it does break, it draws from an equal mix of local windswells and distant groundswells, favoring a West-southwest swell angle. A major benefit of this spot is its versatility across the tidal range, providing good surf at all stages of the tide with both left and right-hand peaks. Because it is inconsistent, it is rarely crowded, making it a peaceful option for those willing to wait for the right window. The best sessions occur when a West-southwest swell meets Northeast offshore winds, with March and the Spring season being the prime time for finding clean, rideable waves.
