📍 Local Knowledge

Préfailles in Brittany marks a transition to a more rugged coastline, offering an exposed reef break that is notably unreliable. Following the regional pattern, the summer months are frequently flat, though it occasionally sees rideable windows. This spot provides both left and right-hand reefs, drawing energy from a mix of groundswells and windswells, ideally from the West-southwest. For the best shape and safety over the reef, it is ideally surfed around mid-tide. A significant draw for this location is its lack of crowds; even when the waves are breaking, it is not likely to be busy. However, surfers must stay extremely cautious of submerged rocks, which are a constant hazard. The best sessions occur when a West-southwest swell meets North offshore winds, with May and the Summer season providing the most consistent opportunities for clean, rideable surf.
