📍 Local Knowledge

La Sauzaie in the Côte de Lumière is a high-performance exposed reef break, widely considered one of the best waves in the Vendée. It is known for its quite reliable surf, though it tends to go flat during the summer months. This spot is primarily a groundswell magnet, performing at its peak with a West-southwest swell and Northeast offshore winds. To get the best out of the reef, it is ideally surfed around high tide. Because of its quality and reputation, the lineup is often crowded when the conditions are firing, which can become a hazard alongside the strong rips and sharp rocks that define the break. The prime time for consistent, clean waves is during the Spring, particularly the month of March.
