π Local Knowledge
Warrington in Otago is an exposed beach and reef break that only works when conditions are just right, with no strong seasonal pattern. The best surf occurs with a northeast swell and offshore winds from the southwest, typically during summerβmost often in Decemberβwhen clean, rideable waves are more likely. The break receives an equal mix of windswells and groundswells, offering both left and right-hand beach break waves, as well as a left-hand reef break. It works best around high tide and is rarely crowded, but surfers should beware of sharks and strong rips.
