πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Lighthouse (Spot C) in North Otago is an exposed reef and point break with quite consistent surf that can work year-round. The best surf occurs with an east-northeast swell and offshore winds from the north, typically during summerβ€”most often in Augustβ€”when clean, rideable waves are most common. Most of the surf comes from groundswells, with a reef break and a left-hand point break offering left-breaking waves. It works best around low tide and is unlikely to be crowded. Surfers should be cautious of sharks, which may be a hazard at this break.
