Campbells Bay in North Otago is an exposed beach and point break with fairly consistent surf that can work year-round. The best surf occurs with a south-southeast swell and offshore winds from the west-northwest, typically during winter—most often in June—when clean, rideable waves are most common. Groundswells and windswells are equally likely, with the beach break offering both left and right-hand waves and a left-hand point break. It works best around high tide and sees relatively few surfers, even on good days. Surfers should watch out for sharks.
