π Local Knowledge
Boulder Beach on the Otago Peninsula is an exposed beach break with reasonably consistent surf that can be surfed year-round. The best surf occurs with a south swell and offshore winds from the north, typically during autumnβmost often in Marchβwhen clean, rideable waves are most common. Windswells and groundswells are equally likely, the beach produces both left and right-hand waves, and it works best around low tide. The lineup is rarely crowded, but surfers should watch out for strong rips and the potential presence of sharks.
