📍 Local Knowledge

Avalanche in Oregon South is an exposed beach and sandbar break that delivers fairly consistent surf year-round and works across all tide stages. It receives a balanced mix of windswells and groundswells, with the ideal swell angle coming from the west. Waves break both left and right, and the spot is best surfed with offshore easterly winds, aided by some shelter from northerly winds. Winter, particularly January, offers the most reliable clean conditions with rideable waves. Unlike many nearby spots, Avalanche is rarely crowded, though surfers should remain cautious of strong rip currents and occasional shark presence.
