La Grande Motte in Languedoc-Roussillon is an exposed beach break that works only when conditions are just right, with the summer months typically remaining flat. It performs best with a south swell and offshore winds from the north-northeast, though the spot also offers some shelter from easterly winds. The break is particularly sensitive and easily blown out by onshore breezes; however, it benefits from a consistent surf quality that remains unaffected by the tide. Windswells are much more typical here than groundswells, producing both left and right-handers across the beach. Even when conditions are optimal, it is unlikely to be crowded, though surfers should remain alert for hazards such as rips and the nearby jetty.
