Parlementia in Nouvelle-Aquitaine is a fairly exposed reef break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong west or northwest swell combines with offshore winds from the east or northeast. Most of the waves arrive in the form of grounded Atlantic swells, producing a long, powerful right-hand peak over the deep rocky reef that can become quite heavy and hollow when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While it is a world-renowned big wave spot between GuΓ©thary and Bidart, the distance from the shore usually allows for a manageable lineup even when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and the rocky reef, which requires a long paddle to reach. The best conditions reported for surf at Parlementia occur when a West-northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the East-northeast.
