📍 Local Knowledge

Les Alcyons/Avalanche in La Côte Basque is an exposed reef break that usually has waves and can work at any time of the year. This spot features a powerful left-hand reef break fueled by an equal measure of windswells and groundswells; while it is best surfed around mid-tide, it is likely to be crowded when the conditions are on. Visitors should remain highly vigilant of hazards including submerged rocks, strong rip currents, and heavy crowds in the lineup. The best conditions occur when a West swell combines with Southeast offshore winds, with October being the prime month for consistent, clean waves.
