La Pointe du Grignon in Pays de la Loire is a fairly exposed reef break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong west or southwest swell combines with offshore winds from the east or northeast. Most of the waves arrive in the form of grounded Atlantic swells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks over the rocky reef that can become quite punchy and powerful when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While it is a well-known spot on the Île de Noirmoutier, the rocky nature of the break usually keeps the lineup manageable. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and the sharp, shallow reef that becomes a significant risk at lower tides. The best conditions reported for surf at La Pointe du Grignon occur when a West swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the East-northeast.
