📍 Local Knowledge

La Cotinière on the Île d'Oléron is an exposed reef break that offers reasonably consistent surf throughout the year. Unlike the sandy beach breaks of the Landes, this spot features left and right breaking reefs, which can provide a more defined wave shape. It receives an equal measure of groundswells and windswells, but specifically favors a Southwest swell angle. The best conditions occur when that Southwest swell meets East-northeast offshore winds. Notably, the peak season here differs from the Gironde; the best time for clean, consistent waves is during Spring, particularly the month of March.
