πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Les Grenettes on the Île de Ré is a versatile exposed spot that combines both beach and reef breaks, though it is known to be quite fickle, working only once in a while. This location offers great variety with both left and right-handers available on the beach and the reef. It draws energy from an equal mix of groundswells and windswells, favoring a West swell direction. Because it doesn't break consistently, it is unlikely to be crowded even when the conditions are on. However, surfers must be careful to avoid the rocks that characterize the reef sections. The best surf occurs when a West swell meets Northeast offshore winds, with March and the Spring season being the prime time for clean, rideable waves.
