📍 Local Knowledge

Aytré Lopette in Charente-Maritime is a sheltered reef break known for its unreliable waves, requiring a significant amount of energy to wrap in. As is common for sheltered spots in this region, the summer months are almost exclusively flat. This spot produces waves from an equal mix of windswells and groundswells, favoring a West swell angle. A major benefit of its inconsistency is that it is unlikely to be crowded even when the surf is up. However, surfers must be wary of the rocks that make up the reef. The best conditions occur when a West swell combines with East-northeast offshore winds, with October and the Spring season offering the best chances for a clean session.
