๐Ÿ“ Local Knowledge

Topsail Island in North Carolina is an exposed beach and jetty break with fairly consistent surf that can work throughout the year. It performs best when a southeast swell aligns with offshore winds from the northwest, producing both left and right-hand waves. The break handles a balanced mix of groundswells and windswells, and the quality of the surf is generally unaffected by tidal changes. Despite its consistency, Topsail Island remains relatively uncrowdedโ€”even during good swellsโ€”offering a laid-back experience for surfers. However, strong rip currents are a known hazard and should be taken seriously. The most reliable conditions for clean, rideable waves typically occur in winter, with November being the standout month.
