📍 Local Knowledge

South Brunswick Beaches across Brunswick County represent a long stretch of exposed barrier islands, including Holden Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, and others. Surf here is generally minimal—right now, it’s shin to knee high, with small swells coming primarily from the south and southeast under light offshore winds. Surfing is at its best in fall—especially September through November—when tropical storms and nor’easters bring more dependable southeast and northeast groundswells, which align with offshore winds for cleaner conditions. Most breaks are weak and best attemptable around low to mid tide when shifting sandbars briefly form peaks. Lineups are nearly non-existent due to consistently poor surf, making any rideable day a quiet gem—just stay alert for rip currents, especially in the channels between the barrier islands.
