Kite Point in Avon, Hatteras Island, is better known as a kiting and windsurfing hub, but it also serves as a quiet beach-break for surfers when conditions align. Surf here performs best in fall, especially September through November, when long-period southeast and northeast groundswells from tropical storms and norβeasters combine with offshore winds from the west to shape cleaner, more rideable peaks. The sandbars in this area shift often, producing variable wave quality, but surfers can expect fun lefts and rights at low to mid tide when the bars are lined up. Crowds are typically minimal compared to more established breaks, though surfers should be aware of strong rips and currents, as well as occasional choppy conditions when winds stay onshore.
