Jolly Roger Pier on Topsail Beach offers solid surf when long-period groundswells arrive, thanks to its exposed location. Right now, the surf is around 3.5 ft, with strong 7-second period swell and steady northeast windsβcreating punchy, rideable waves that are shaping up nicely. This break works best in fall, especially October through November, when tropical storms and norβeasters deliver reliable southeast and northeast swells, often cleaned up by offshore breezes from the west to northwest. Expect peaky lefts and rights that usually mirror low to mid tide conditions. Thanks to its less trafficked location compared to nearby Pier spots, crowds are lighter. Be sure to watch for rip currents and shifting bars, especially during larger swells.
