📍 Local Knowledge

Johnnie Mercer’s Pier at Wrightsville Beach is a central, well-known beach-break offering powerful, peaky waves shaped by shifting sandbars and enhanced seabed contours near the pier. The spot performs best in fall—especially October through November—when tropical systems and nor’easter swells from the southeast and northeast bring more consistent groundswells, especially under offshore winds from the west or northwest. Though current live surf data isn't displayed, the pier is historically reliable and can produce punchy lefts and rights, especially at low to mid tide. Surfers should also beware rip currents and shifting troughs near the pier.
