It performs best in fall, particularly September to October, when the fall swell window brings in more frequent and clean groundswells, often enhanced by offshore or cross-offshore winds. The waves are generally small to moderate, making the lineup welcoming to both beginners and intermediate surfers. The access is excellent—with a large parking lot, handicap accommodations, public showers, restrooms, and lifeguard coverage—making it one of the more convenient surf spots in Kill Devil Hills. Surfers should still watch for rip currents, particularly near shifting sandbars.
