Gold Beach

Gold Beach is a fairly exposed beach break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong northwest or west swell combines with offshore winds from the south or southeast. Most of the waves arrive in the form of local windswells, producing a variety of left and right-hand peaks across the sandy shoreline that can become quite punchy when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While the expansive coastline helps to spread out the crowd, the main peaks can become busy when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents and submerged remnants of the historic Mulberry harbour. The best conditions reported for surf at Gold Beach occur when a West-northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South-southeast.
