Waikuku Beach in Kaikoura is an exposed beach break that has reasonably consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best conditions occur when a South-southeast swell, consisting of a mix of groundswells and windswells, combines with an offshore wind direction from the West-northwest. The beach break offers both left and right-hand waves and is unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. The best time of year for surfing Waikuku Beach with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of June.
