πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Te Oka Bay on the Banks Peninsula is a fairly exposed beach break with quite reliable surf that can work year-round. The best surf occurs with a south-southeast swell and offshore winds from the north, typically during winterβ€”most often in Mayβ€”when clean, rideable waves are most consistent. Waves arrive from both local windswells and distant groundswells, producing left and right-hand beach break waves that work best around low tide. It is a fairly popular spot and can sometimes get crowded, so surfers should beware of strong rips and exposed rocks.
