📍 Local Knowledge
Patons Rock in Nelson - Tasman Bay is a quite exposed beach and reef break that tends to be flat during the summer months. The best conditions occur when an East-northeast windswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South, benefiting from some shelter from southeast winds and the ability to handle light onshore breezes. The spot offers both left and right-hand waves, and even when the surf is up, crowds are unknown. Groundswells are nonexistent at this location due to its position. The best time of year for consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of January.
