πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Murdering Bay in Otago is an exposed reef and point break with fairly consistent surf that can be surfed year-round. The best surf occurs with a northeast swell and offshore winds from the south, typically during summerβ€”most often in Decemberβ€”when clean, rideable waves are most common. The break is mainly driven by distant groundswells and is very rarely crowded, even when conditions line up. Surfers should watch out for exposed rocks, strong rips, and the potential presence of sharks.
