π Local Knowledge
Allans Beach on the Otago Peninsula is an exposed beach break with reasonably consistent surf that can be surfed year-round. The best surf occurs with a south swell and offshore winds from the north, typically during autumnβmost often in Marchβwhen clean, rideable waves are most common. The break receives a mix of groundswells and windswells, produces both left and right-handers, and is surfable across all stages of the tide. The area is very rarely crowded, but surfers should beware of strong rips and the potential presence of sharks.
