📍 Local Knowledge

West End at Jones Beach is an exposed beach break known for its fairly consistent surf throughout the year. It responds well to both windswells and groundswells, with the best swell direction from the southeast to east and clean, rideable conditions typically supported by offshore or cross-offshore winds from the northwest. The break performs across all tide stages and is best surfed on a mid to low tide, offering open, sandy-bottomed peaks suitable for both longboarders and shortboarders. The most favorable period is in autumn—particularly in September—when swell and wind align for clean surf. Although accessible, the beach can become quite crowded on prime days, and surfers should remain vigilant for strong rip currents in the lineup.
