Terrace in Suffolk County is a semi-exposed beach break that offers playful to powerful waves depending on swell direction and size—best conditions typically occur in late summer through fall when tropical and hurricane swells arrive. Offshore northwest to west winds groom south and southeast swells, creating peaky lefts and rights over shifting sandbars. The break works at multiple tides, but mid to incoming tide often provides the most consistent shape. Crowds can vary from light to moderate, with more surfers showing up during larger, clean swells. Hazards include rip currents, shifting channels, and occasional shorebreak. The prime months for surf are August through October.
