πŸ“ Local Knowledge

North Bar in Long Island, NY, is a fairly exposed beach and reef break with reasonably consistent surf year-round. It works best with offshore winds from the southwest and receives a mix of windswells and groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the east. The break features a right-hand reef wave, and surf quality is unaffected by the tide. The best conditions occur when an east swell aligns with southwest winds. Spring, especially April, provides the most consistent clean waves. When it’s working, it can get crowded, and surfers should watch out for rocks, rip currents, and jellyfish.
