📍 Local Knowledge

Fire Island in New York is an exposed sandbar break with consistent surf year-round. It works on both groundswells and windswells, with the ideal swell direction from the south-southeast and offshore winds from the north-northwest. The break handles all tide stages and remains relatively uncrowded due to its expansive coastline and limited access points. The best surf conditions occur in autumn, particularly in September, when clean waves are most frequent. Surfers should be mindful of shifting sandbars, rip currents, and occasional localism in certain communities.
