Cupsogue, Long Island, NY, is an exposed beach/jetty break with consistent surf year-round. It works best with offshore winds from the northwest and is somewhat sheltered from west winds. Both groundswells and windswells produce rideable waves, with the ideal swell direction from the southwest. The break offers both lefts and rights but can get crowded. Strong rip currents are a hazard. The best surf conditions occur when a southwest swell aligns with northwest offshore winds, with winter—especially January—offering the most consistent clean waves.
