📍 Local Knowledge

Rockaway Beach in Long Island, NY, is an exposed beach break with consistent surf year-round, best from summer through September. It receives a mix of groundswells and windswells, with ideal swell direction from the east and offshore winds from the northwest. The main break is at the 90th St. jetty, with other surfable peaks near rock jetties from 65th to 90th St. The waves are mostly lefts and work at all tide stages, but the lineup is often crowded. Hazards include dangerous rips and partially submerged wooden pilings between 91st and 93rd St.
