St. James in New Jersey is an exposed beach break offering consistent surf, most reliable during summer and early fall when tropical and long-period swells arrive. Offshore winds from the west clean up incoming swell, creating peaky lefts and rights across shifting sandbars. The spot works through all tides, though mid tide generally provides the best mix of shape and power. While weekdays are often mellow, weekends and bigger swells can bring a noticeable crowd. Surfers should watch for rip currents and the constantly moving sandbars that can change conditions quickly. The most consistent clean waves usually appear in September.
