📍 Local Knowledge

Sandy Hook in New Jersey is a consistently good beach and reef break that works year-round. It handles both groundswells and windswells, with the best swell direction coming from the east-southeast. Offshore winds from the west-southwest help create optimal conditions. The break works well at all tide stages, but be cautious of rips, rocks, and heavy local traffic when the surf is up. The ideal conditions for clean, rideable waves are when an east-southeast swell combines with west-southwest offshore winds, particularly during the summer, with July being the most reliable month for quality waves. For bigger surf, consider heading to Anchorage further down the coast.
