📍 Local Knowledge

Ortley Beach in New Jersey is an exposed beach break known for its punchy, powerful waves, especially during late summer tropical swells and winter storms. Offshore winds from the northwest align well with southeast and east swells, creating fast, hollow peaks that can produce barreling sections over well-formed sandbars. The spot is surfable at all tide stages, though mid to low tide often brings the best conditions. Crowds can be moderate to heavy at popular access points, particularly during prime swell events. Surfers should watch for strong rip currents and heavy shorebreak during larger surf. The most consistent clean waves usually occur in September.
