Inner Cut in Nelson is a fairly exposed reef break that has unreliable waves, with spring and summer typically providing the best conditions. The best conditions occur when a Northwest groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Southeast. This right-hand reef break performs best around a falling mid tide and is unlikely to be crowded even when there are waves. Although spring and summer are noted for waves, the best time of year for consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of August.
