Delaware Bay Point in Nelson is a quite exposed point break that has reasonably consistent surf, with spring and summer providing the optimum conditions. The best conditions occur when a Northwest groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South-southwest, although South winds are also favorable. The break is a left-hand point that performs best around mid tide when the tide is falling, and it is unlikely to be too crowded even when the surf is up. Surfers should watch out for dangerous rips at this location. While spring and summer are often best for waves, the most consistent time of year for clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of June.
