Plage du Larvotto in Monaco (adjacent to the French Riviera) is a sheltered beach break that requires a significant weather system to produce rideable surf. Winter is the most reliable time of year for waves, as summer is almost perpetually flat. The spot performs best when a strong south or southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the north or northwest. Most of the energy arrives in the form of short-period local windswells, which produce both left and right-handers. The break is generally best around mid to high tide, as the waves can lose power or close out at low tide. While it is rarely crowded due to the inconsistency of the waves, surfers should be mindful of the surrounding urban infrastructure and potential water pollution after heavy rains. The best conditions at Plage du Larvotto occur when a solid Southeast swell meets a light North-northwest wind.
