Cape Ann, located in northeastern Massachusetts, features a variety of surf spots ranging from exposed beach breaks to rocky point breaks, offering the most consistent and powerful waves during the fall and winter months, with October and November being the prime surf season. The area works best on northeast to southeast swells with offshore winds from the west to northwest, and different spots within Cape Ann respond to various tide levels—though mid to high tide generally provides the best shape. Local breaks like Good Harbor, Long Beach, and Pebble Beach each have their own personality, drawing a mix of shortboarders and longboarders. Cold water gear is essential for much of the year, and while crowds can vary, local knowledge and lineup etiquette are important across the region.
