Outside Shoals in Maryland is an exposed offshore break that only works occasionally, with no strong seasonal pattern to its activity. When it does turn on, it favors a southeast swell combined with offshore winds from the west. The spot receives a mix of groundswells and windswells, producing both left and right-hand waves. Its remote nature means it’s almost never crowded, offering a rare sense of solitude for those willing to seek it out. However, surfers should be cautious—rip currents and the potential presence of sharks are notable hazards. While inconsistent, the best chances for clean, rideable waves typically occur during the summer months, especially in July.
