📍 Local Knowledge
Playa Hermosa is an exposed beach break in Costa Rica that offers fairly consistent surf. It works best with offshore winds from the northeast and tends to pick up groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the south to southwest. The most favorable conditions occur when a clean south-southwest swell combines with light offshore winds. The break provides both left and right-hand waves over a sandy bottom, and while it can be crowded—especially given its popularity and proximity—its long stretch offers multiple peaks to spread out. Surfers should be wary of strong currents, shifting sandbars, and occasional shorebreak. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during the Pacific swell season, especially between May and October.
