📍 Local Knowledge

Las Penitas is an exposed beach break in Nicaragua that sees fairly reliable surf. It favors offshore winds from the east to northeast and tends to capture groundswells, with the best swell direction coming from the south-southwest to southwest. The spot works best around mid to high tide for optimal wave shape. The most favorable conditions arise when a long-period southwest swell aligns with light offshore winds. Las Penitas offers both left and right-hand waves, and while it can get busy during prime conditions, it’s generally manageable. Surfers should watch for rips and occasional shorebreak hazards. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during the summer season, particularly between May and September.
